Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Road Accident Deaths.

Brendan McGahon

Question:

62 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons who were killed in road accidents in County Louth in the last five years involving Northern Ireland motorists; the number of prosecutions which were taken as a result; and the reason the remainder were not prosecuted.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that 34 people were killed in County Louth in the last five years in 24 road accidents involving motorists from Northern Ireland. Seven prosecutions were taken as a result of these accidents. In the remaining cases criminal proceedings were not instituted because of insufficient evidence or because the driver involved was killed.
