Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Taxation of FÁS Payments.

Michael Bell

Question:

100 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance the reason withholding tax is being deducted from wages paid by FÁS to persons (details supplied) in County Louth; when they will be transferred to normal PAYE; when arrears of tax due will be paid to both; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that they are involved in correspondence and discussions with FÁS with a view to establishing the correct procedure for deducting tax from payments made to persons engaged by FÁS under contracts.

With regard to arrears of tax due, the inspector of taxes will now write to the two persons concerned for the details necessary to review their liabilities to tax for the years 1988-89 and 1989-90. Any refunds due will be made without delay.
