Vol. 399 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sale of County Kerry Land.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

28 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Energy the reason 36 hectares of partially planted land was disposed of by the Forestry and Wildlife Service prior to Coillte Teoranta coming into operation at Derrynafinnia, Clonkeen, Killarney, County Kerry; the moneys received from the sale and the name of the purchaser; if the deal has been completed and if the money has been paid in full; and the position regarding the right of way through the property; and if it is the same as heretofore for both landowners of commonage and tourists climbing the Paps mountain.

The Forest Service placed on sale 36 hectares of partially planted land at Derrynafinnia by public tender competition in 1988 to accommodate individuals who expressed interest in purchasing the property and because it suited the management strategy of the Forest Service. Tenders were invited for the purchase of the property in two lots. The successful tenderers were separate individuals and it is not the practice to either divulge the names of individuals or the amounts tendered by them for property purchased on the tender system. The Chief State Solicitor's Office is at present finalising the sales and full payment has yet to be made. The position regarding the registered rights-of-way through the property is the same as heretofore for both land owners of commonage and tourists climbing the Paps mountain.
