Vol. 399 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kildare VEC Allocation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

94 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education, having regard to the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 73 of 10 May, 1990, the basis for determining that the Kildare Vocational Education Committee's allocation does not compare unfavourably with the national average; if the information is not available to her Department as indicated in paragraph one of that reply; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Regard was had to the total number of enrolments as at 30 September, 1989 for approved junior and senior cycle courses in each VEC's schools and to each VEC's total authorised teaching staff allocation (excluding ex-quota posts) in respect of those courses for the current session. Teaching staff allocations are made by my Department on a committee scheme basis and not in respect of individual schools; the allocations to individual schools are the responsibility of the CEO and committee. The overall teacher allocation for each VEC, including County Kildare VEC, has been dealt with on the same basis.
