Question:116 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans for the reopening of the canal linking Lough Allen with Acres Lake, County Leitrim and the Shannon Navigation.
Written Answers. - Plans to Reopen Canal.
The Office of Public Works are at present carrying out a detailed investigation of the problems involved and the expenditure required to reopen the canal linking Lough Allen with Acres Lake and the Shannon Navigation. This investigation requires a hydrographic survey of the lake which is being undertaken and discussions with the Electricity Supply Board, who currently control water levels in Lough Allen. Based on this examination detailed plans and estimates will be prepared.
