Question:

121 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Marine if he will outline the plans he has for the development of angling on the many excellent fishing lakes in County Leitrim; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The regional fisheries boards in accordance with section 11 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, have statutory responsibility for the management, conservation, protection, development and improvement of fisheries in their regions.

The preparation of proposals for development of fisheries in County Leitrim is a matter for the two regional boards concerned, viz. the Shannon and Northern Regional Fisheries Boards, having regard to the resources at their disposal.

122 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Marine the plans he has for angling development on Lough Gill, Lough Arrow, Lough Talt and other Sligo lakes and rivers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The North-Western Regional Fisheries Board in accordance with section 11 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, have statutory responsibility for the management, conservation, protection development and improvement of fisheries in the north-western region and as such the preparation of proposals for the development of angling on Lough Gill, Lough Arrow, Lough Talt and other Sligo lakes and rivers is a matter for the board having regard to the resources at their disposal.
