Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Supply Extension.

Edward Nealon

Question:

152 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Energy if the plans for the extension of the natural gas pipeline to Border counties and on to Sligo have been abandoned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The special border areas programme, which included funding for an extension of the gas supply to the north east region, provided for further assistance where viable projects in the Border counties are identified.Bord Gais Éireann has been investigating the possibility of supplying such areas and is of the view that a very high rate of funding would be necessary to establish a viable pipeline project. No final decision has yet been taken in this regard.
