Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Remedial Works Grant.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

182 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the progress made in assessing the application from Dublin County Council for a refurbishment grant of £1.75 million for 190 houses in Limekiln Farm Estate, Walkinstown, Dublin 12; the reasons for which the grant is required; the defects in the houses which it is required to remedy; when the application was received from Dublin County Council; the steps he has taken in the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 109 on 28 February, 1990. The council's initial outline proposals in the matter were received in January, 1988. Subsequently, the local authority sought approval for the use of internal capital receipts from the sale of houses to finance the work. In the light of the Government's decision to include such funds as part of the local authority housing capital programme, the council were informed that their proposal could not be approved. However, the eligibility of the project for funding under the remedial works scheme is now being considered and a decision in the matter will be conveyed to the authority as soon as possible.
