211 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health the total amount of money expended to date on the construction work of the extension to Sligo General Hospital; and the total estimated cost of the completion of the building, not including the cost of furnishing and equipment.

Question:

212 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the accommodation to be provided in the extension to Sligo General Hospital; the specific purposes for which this accommodation will be used when the building is completed; and the square footage, or percentage of the entire extra space available, which will be allocated to each specific purpose.

Question:

213 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the work that has been completed on the extension to Sligo General Hospital; when it is expected that the entire construction work will be completed; when the furnishing, fitting out and equipping of the extension will begin; and when it is expected that the extension will be ready to open for hospital use.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 210 to 213 together.

It is expected that the Sligo General Hospital contract will be completed in 1993. Expenditure to date on the construction work is £14.2 million and the estimated fitting out cost will be of the order of £8 million. The total floor area is approximately 25,000 square metres and is allocated to the different functions as follows:

Phase 1, Stage 1, is nearing completion and is currently being equipped. This section of the hospital is expected to open in early 1991. The agreed tender figure for the current construction contract is £17.127 million. As this figure is subject to fluctuation due to inflation and price variations it would be premature to give a final total cost figure for the project at this stage.
