Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Electricity Generating Units.

Dick Spring

Question:

36 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Energy if he will request the ESB to recommission the electricity generating units at Tarbert power station, County Kerry, which has not been utilised for some years.

In order to cater for load growth the ESB will be refurbishing 120 MW of oil fired capacity at Great Island next year. It will also be assessing the situation at Tarbert and at other mothballed plants in order to enable possible reinstatement decisions to be made. Reintroduction of these plants would depend, in the first place, on the rate of growth in electricity sales but would also have to be justified on economic, technical and environmental grounds.
