Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Generation of Electricity.

Brendan McGahon

Question:

69 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for Energy the plans he has for the development of new alternative cost effective means of generating electricity; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The generation of electricity is primarily a matter for the Electricity Supply Board. The ESB do not need additional generating capacity at present. When increased electricity demand has to be met, all alternative direct generating and supply options will be considered, including possible interconnection with the UK.
