73 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Energy the discussions, if any, which he has had with the ESB concerning the manner in which they will be expected to absorb the VAT increase on electricity imposed in the budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Subsequent to the budget announcement I raised this matter with the ESB. They intend to absorb the increased price for domestic customers by way of reduced profits. Commercial and industrial customers will be able to recover the increased VAT charge in the normal way.
