Question:37 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Justice if he will introduce legislation providing for the appointment of a Legal Services Ombudsman; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The proposed Solicitors Amendment Bill, which is at an advanced stage of drafting, will propose changes in the machinery for dealing with complaints against solicitors. But I would like to consider the recommendations made in the report of the Fair Trade Commission before finalising the legislation and deciding what further changes are needed in regard to the legal profession in relation to this matter.
