Vol. 401 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Houses Discrimination.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

38 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice if he will amend the licencing laws to prevent publicans from discriminating against certain categories of person with regard to admission to public houses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I do not think it appropriate to single out publicans for special attention in the area of alleged discrimination. This type of problem can arise in any case where services are provided to the public, and if action is needed, it seems to me, that it would be more appropriate that the problem should be addressed in the wider context of discrimination generally.
