A potential officers course with 27 students is under way at present. The number of personnel to be appointed as officers of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil in 1990 and 1991 will be dependent on the outcome of this course.
Under Defence Force regulations personnel seeking appointment as officers of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil should normally be under 35 years of age. Candidates who have academic qualifications which are of value to the Defence Forces, for example a medical doctor, must be under 45 years of age.
