Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Family Farm Income.

Edward Nealon

Question:

121 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if any surveys have been carried out which show the level of family farm income on a county by county basis; and, if so, if he will give details for (1) County Sligo and (2) County Leitrim.

The national farm survey conducted annually by Teagasc is the official survey which provides information on family farm income. In addition, the household budget survey conducted during 1987 and published in 1989 provides information on farm household income. However, in neither case are the surveys sufficiently detailed to provide information on a county basis. While specific surveys, drawing upon diverse statistical sources, have been carried out for a limited number of counties, no such surveys have been carried out for County Sligo or County Leitrim.
