Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - FIFA World Cup Commemoration Stamp.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

160 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Communications if it is his intention to commemorate the magnificent achievement of the Irish soccer team in the World Cup by authorising the issue of a special postage stamp; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Two special stamps have already been issued to celebrate Irelands participation in the FIFA World Cup in Italy in 1990. The stamps were issued on 5 April 1990. They portray typical scenes from football matches involving the Republic of Ireland team, with one of the stamps featuring a match against Italy. These stamps were also issued in a special commemorative sheet. Accordingly it is not proposed to issue a further stamp in respect of Ireland's participation in the FIFA World Cup 1990.
