Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Southern Health Board Public Health Nurses.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

232 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Health if he has received an application from the Southern Health Board for an increase in the number of public health nurses in line with the national average.

The Southern Health Board has informed my Department of its intention to recruit additional public health nurses to implement the recommendations of The Years Ahead — A Policy for the Elderly with funding made available from the £5 million allocated by the Government this year to develop services for the elderly.

The board's proposals have been approved. The appointment of the additional public health nurses will improve the board's ratio of public health nurses to population.
