Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Child Health Clinic Closure.

Richard Bruton

Question:

235 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the closure of the walk-in baby clinic at Vernon Avenue, Clontarf, Dublin 3; whether it conforms with Government policy to see the closure of such facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of the services referred to in the question is a matter in the first instance for the Eastern Health Board. I understand from the board that two developmental clinics and two immunisation clinics are held each month at Vernon Avenue and that these will continue to be provided.

Until recently two child welfare clinics, which were open to children up to six years of age, were held each month, involving the attendance of a doctor. I understand that the board is currently reorganising this service and that future arrangements will involve the provision of:——
(a) one medically staffed child welfare referral clinic per month and
(b) two "walk-in" child health clinics per month, staffed by public health nurses from which children can be referred to (a).
I have been assured by the board that there will be no change in the situation prevailing heretofore, whereby any child who needs to be seen by the area medical officer will have that need fulfilled.
