Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Leisure and Recreational Facilities.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

18 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for the Environment the consideration which has been given to amending planning legislation to require that a commercial developer would be required to contribute to, or make provision for, leisure and recreational facilities on the site being developed.

Section 26 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, already allows planning conditions to require the carrying out of other works which the planning authority consider necessary for the purposes of the authorised development, the provision of open spaces, and payment by the developer of a contribution towards past or proposed works by a local authority who facilitate the development.

The question of making further specific provision in relation to the matters referred to by the Deputy will be considered in the context of the next suitable review of planning law.
