Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Fuel Policy.

Austin Currie

Question:

32 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment the terms of reference of the working party on policy for fuels in the Dublin area; when the working party is expected to report; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The terms of reference of the working party on policy for fuels in the Dublin area are as follows: To consider policy for fuels in the Dublin area which would enable the present smoke problem to be remedied as soon as possible and, in particular, (i) to consider the feasibility of extending gas mains to all built-up areas of Dublin city and county including the preparation of definite costings in this respect; (ii) to consider what steps should be taken to maximise the use of natural gas in the domestic sector in Dublin and (iii) to consider to what extent the use of electricity, LPG, peat, native anthracite and other smokeless low smoke fuels might be developed further in substitution for polluting fuels in Dublin. It is expected that the committee will submit their report shortly.
