Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing for the Disabled.

Ivan Yates

Question:

33 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the relevance of group homes with non-self-contained dwellings and shared communal facilities to the housing needs of persons with disabilities; and if he will take steps to allow the funding of this type of accommodation under the terms of his Department's Circular BC 5/88 currently confined to the accommodation of homeless persons.

I am satisfied that the voluntary housing scheme operated by my Department is sufficiently flexible to allow funding of the provision of accommodation for persons with disabilities which is not fully self-contained and which includes communal facilities needed by residents in such accommodation.

It is not proposed to include disabled persons within the special funding arrangements under which a higher level of assistance is available in respect of accommodation provided for homeless persons.
