Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grants.

Jim Higgins

Question:

41 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment the number of house improvement grants awaiting payment; the number of outstanding grant approvals for which the necessary completion certificates were not submitted prior to the termination date of 31 May 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A total of 3,360 claims notifying the completion of approved works are at present at various stages of processing, including inspection, with a view to their payment. About 22,000 applicants who had obtained approval to a house improvement grant under the 1985 scheme had not submitted claims for payment by 31 May 1990; this represents a proportion which is not out of line with experience on previous schemes.
