Vol. 401 No. 6

Written Answers. - Headage Payments.

Enda Kenny

Question:

124 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the level of cattle and sheep headage payments payable in equivalent Irish terms in each EC country; if he has any plans to increase payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am arranging to obtain the information requested by the Deputy in the first part of his question and will write to him in the matter as soon as possible.

As announced previously, I am proposing increases in payment rates which, together with the cost of the extension/reclassification of the disadvantaged areas, will increase the total annual value of our disadvantaged areas schemes from £60 million in 1989 to £100 million after implementation of the extension/reclassification and those increases. The timing of the increases, however, will depend on the availability of FEOGA and Exchequer funds.
