Vol. 401 No. 6

Written Answers. - Accommodation for Young Homeless.

Richard Bruton

Question:

181 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself with the estimated decline in the number of drop-in bed places available to young homeless people from 438 in 1984 to 312 in 1989, in view of the clear evidence of the growth in young homeless to a level which is well over double the number of bed places available, resulting in a situation where Dublin's Focuspoint reports that in the first four months of this year only 18 per cent of those approaching them for accommodation could be appropriately placed.

Question:

182 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the emerg ency accommodation which is available to (a) boys and (b) girls who are homeless in (1) Limerick (2) Waterford (3) Galway and (4) Cork; and if he will make a statement on the way in which these provisions compare to the level of homeless young people needing accommodation in these locations.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 181 and 182 together.

The information needed to give a full reply to the above questions is not available in my Department on a routine basis. I am having the data compiled and will be in touch with the Deputy as soon as possible.
