Vol. 401 No. 6

Written Answers. - Vacant Teaching Post.

Frank Crowley

Question:

201 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Education the reason an assistance teacher at Laharn national school, Lom bardstown, Mallow, County Cork, vacated her position; if she will be replaced; if not, the reason; and if she considers one teacher adequate to teach classes ranging from infants to sixth class.

The staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery.

As the enrolment at Laharn national school dropped to 25 on 30 September 1989, the first assistant teacher was placed on the Cloyne Diocesan Panel for redeployment to another school in accordance with the Rules for National Schools.
