Question:

206 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that due to the dramatic decline of uncertified departures in students attending regional technical colleges she has made inadequate financial allocations in both the pay and non pay areas; and if she will outline the steps she will take to prevent regional technical colleges from reducing their first year intake of students in September 1990.

Financial allocations for 1990 have been appealed by a number of VEC third-level colleges. These appeals will be considered as a matter of urgency within the constraints of my Department's budgetary provision for the sector and in the context of the ongoing programme to secure the highest possible levels of efficiency in the sector generally.
