Question:

Question:

90 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Education the number of boys and girls who have taken mathematics at leaving certificate, intermediate certificate and group certificate at the various levels since 1984; and if she will make a statement on any trends that are apparent.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 27, 28 and 90 together.

As the Deputies are probably aware the terms "pass" or "fail" are no longer applied to the certificate examinations. All candidates are awarded certificates showing the grades obtained in the subjects taken by them. I take it that what the questions seek to elicit are details of the number of candidates who did not obtain at least grade D.
