Vol. 401 No. 6

Written Answers. - Temporary Teachers Holiday Pay.

Toddy O'Sullivan

Question:

32 Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education if she will introduce a system whereby holiday pay will be paid to temporary part-time teachers in primary schools who have a number of years of continuous service; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Payment of salary in respect of the months of July and August is already allowed to temporary teachers who have given continuous service for a full school year i.e. September to June. Furthermore, temporary teachers may qualify for payment of salary in respect of school summer holidays retrospectively when they have given continuous service over a 12 month period spanning successive school years e.g. service from January to June and from the following September to December.

Temporary teachers employed for shorter periods are paid for the Christmas and Easter vacations if they serve before and after these vacations periods.
