Vol. 401 No. 6

Written Answers. - Teacher Retirement Scheme.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

64 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if, in light of the falling numbers which are projected in our schools, she will consider offering a further early retirement scheme to teachers in first, second and third level education; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The scheme of voluntary redundancy/early retirement was introduced by the Government in order to reduce the numbers employed in the public service. The scheme applied throughout the public service and was terminated in December 1988. There are no plans to introduce a further early retirement scheme.
