Written Answers. - One-Teacher Schools.

Question:

79 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education, in view of the fact that one-teacher schools tend to be located in remote areas and the implications if a child is injured or becomes ill during the school day, if she will outline the number of those schools that do not have a telephone; the action she proposes to take; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Under Rule 15 (1) of the Rules for National Schools the manager of a national schools is charged with the direct government of the school. Therefore, the provision of telephones in national schools is a matter for the boards of management of the schools concerned.
