Vol. 401 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cemetery Fencing.

Tony Gregory

Question:

113 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if, arising out of his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 89 on 27 June 1990, his attention has been drawn to the fact that new fencing was vandalised and pulled down within hours of being erected; if more durable vandal proof fencing could be provided to protect this cemetery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the new security fencing at Grangegorman Military Cemetery, Blackhorse Avenue has recently been vandalised.

I understand that the Commissioners of Public Works are arranging for the early re-erection of the fencing and are considering long-term options for its replacement by a more secure type of fencing.
The problem is essentially one of vandalism, however, and I am advised that the local gardaí are keeping the area under observation.
