Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Meat Cargo for Iraq.

Peter Barry

Question:

153 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a shipload of Irish meat destined for Iraq is held up in a Turkish port; the reason the Iraqi authorities refused to accept the cargo; the value of the cargo; and whether this amount is included in the amount of money owed by the Iraq Government to an Irish meat exporter.

I understand that a consignment has been held up in a Turkish port due to the imposition of UN sanctions against Iraq which prohibit exports to that country. The Deputy will appreciate that I am not in a position to supply detailed information on individual consignments and exporters.
