Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Private Nursing Homes Funding.

Ivan Yates

Question:

267 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health when new private nursing homes will be able to seek approval for subvention funding under the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990; and if he will outline the number of additional beds which will be available to each health board for subvention.

Nursing homes will not seek approval for subvention under the new Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990. They will apply for registration which will be renewed every three years.

The payment of subventions under the new Act will be related to individuals applying for nursing care. A health board will be able to pay a subvention towards the cost of a patient in any registered nursing home. It is not possible to give a figure for the number of additional nursing home beds in which a health board may subvent a patient until health boards have registered nursing homes under the new Act.
