Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mental Health Legislation.

Bernard Allen

Question:

277 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he has any proposals to introduce legislation to deal with the Irish mental hospitals' status arising from a recent statement by a person (details supplied) that the present legislation was inadequate.

As I indicated in my response to a previous question on 29 May last (Official Report Vol. 399, Col. 575), I intend to put forward proposals for new mental health legislation following widespread consultation with interested parties. My Department is currently preparing a discussion document which will examine all aspects of mental health legislation.
