Question:

330 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education the number of submissions received for the contract for an indoor swimming pool in Sligo; when the successful candidate will be selected; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 329 and 330 together.

In response to a public advertisement in May 1990, ten submissions were received from consortia for the indoor swimming pool in Sligo. A total of four consortia have been shortlisted to proceed to the next stage which will involve the preparation of detailed proposals on a design, construct, finance and manage basis. This submission will be based on a detailed brief which is at present being finalised by my Department in consultation with Sligo Corporation and which will be issued to the shortlisted consortia in the near future.

Consortia will be allowed a period of two months to prepare the detailed proposals and it is expected that the successful consortium will be appointed early next year.

Following completion of the contractual arrangements with the selected consortium work on site can commence.
