Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Belfast Shooting.

Peter Barry

Question:

81 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has raised at the Anglo-Irish Conference the shooting of two joy-riders in Belfast last month.

I am concerned about the circumstances surrounding the shooting dead of Martin Peake and Karen Reilly by members of a British Army patrol in west Belfast on 30 September. Immediately following the incident, the matter was raised within the framework of the Anglo-Irish Conference.

I understand that the RUC have now completed their investigations into the shooting and that the file on the case has been referred to the Northern Ireland Director of Public Prosecutions.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sympathy to both the Peake and Reilly families on their tragic loss.
