Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Liquor Licences.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

87 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans to request the customs and excise division to amend their procedures concerning annual renewal of 7-day liquor licences in order to give publicans, on an individual basis, due notice of their obligation to renew same in September of each year, in view of the large amount of confusion, in some cases default, on the part of some publicans in renewing their licences; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that there is already in existence a procedure for notification to publicans reminding them of their obligation to renew their licences. The procedure entails the issue of a combined renewal notice/application form to each last known licensee prior to the expiry date of each licensing year on 30 September. Where a licence is not renewed further reminders are issued. I am advised by the Commissioners that they are unaware of confusion in relation to the renewal procedures operated by them.
