Vol. 402 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces Sick Leave Entitlement.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

56 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Defence when he proposes to extend the seven days uncertified sick leave in any one year regulation, at present available to officers, to enlisted persons and NCOs.

Under existing Defence Forces regulations, non-commissioned personnel are entitled to sick leave on full pay on certification by an officer of the Army Medical Corps, or on production of a certificate from their local doctor. The cost of all such visits to civilian doctors is borne by my Department.

The recommendation of the Commission on Remuneration and Conditions of Service in the Defence Forces that the facility of seven days uncertified sick leave be extended to non-commissioned personnel is acceptable. The amendments necessary to Defence Forces regulations for implementation of the recommendation are being prepared.

In view of the fact that the Minister has given so many commitments this afternoon, when can the personnel expect this to be implemented?

From today?

Wait now, not today.

We have completed all the questions tabled to the Minister.
