Vol. 402 No. 3

Written Answers. - Loughgall Shootings.

Peter Barry

Question:

73 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has raised at the Anglo-Irish Conference the shootings in Loughgall on 9 October 1990; if he has satisfied himself that the shootings took place because no other course was open to the security forces; and if he repeated to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland that the vast majority of people in this country would give their total support to the security forces in bringing to trial the terrorists who have been responsible for the deaths of so many innocent people.

The shootings near Loughgall on 9 October were immediately raised with the British authorities within the framework of the Anglo-Irish Conference. I understand that the incident has been investigated by the RUC and the report of their inquiries submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions. In the circumstances, I feel that it would not be appropriate for me to comment further on the matter at this time.
