Vol. 402 No. 3

Written Answers. - Vacated State Properties.

Michael Bell

Question:

84 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline in respect of leased or rented properties vacated by the State in the period 1 January 1989 to 30 June 1990 and properties intended to be vacated by 31 December 1990 (a) the location and ownership of the property concerned, (b) dates of occupation and vacation, (c) branches of the State services involved, (d) the length and terms of lease, (e) details of break clauses involved and (f) the amounts of compensation paid in that period, per property; and if he will further outline Government policy in relation to the occupation and future property needs of the State sector in the Dublin city area.

Information in regard to the properties surrendered by the Commissioners of Public Works in the period from 1 January 1989 to date is set out in the tabular statement under.

No further surrenders of property are proposed in the period to 31 December 1990.

It is not the practice to divulge details of commercial transactions with other parties and this would extend to the making of leases on their surrender.

Compensation was paid in respect of three of the lease surrenders and I am satisfied that the amount paid in each case was reasonable.
State policy countrywide is designed to ensure the use to optimum advantage of the existing State property portfolio, to meet any new requirements in the most suitable and economic way and to dispose of property surplus to requirements so as to achieve maximum return on benefit.
