Vol. 402 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sewage Treatment Plant.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

115 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment if he will list the locations where plans have been approved for the construction of sewage treatment plants; the dates it is envisaged that the works will commence; the cost of each plant; and the envisaged completion date.

The Operational Programme for Water, Sanitary and Other Local Services, 1989-1993, which has been agreed with the EC Commission, will be published shortly. This outlines a development strategy for sewerage and other facilities and includes an indicative list of sewerage schemes to be commenced over the period of the programme.

An operational programme is also being prepared and should be approved and published at a later stage, in connection with the Community Initiative ENVIREG. This will set out a specific strategy for effluent disposal arrangements of major coastal towns.

Question:

116 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment whether it is planned to install a sewage treatment plant at Clonmel, County Tipperary; if so, when; and when is it envisaged that this plant will come into operation.

My Department has requested Clonmel Corporation to prepare proposals for full secondary treatment facilities for Clonmel. I understand that the corporation have commenced the planning of this proposal. Until this planning has been completed, it is not possible to indicate when work will commence or when the plant may come into operation.
