Vol. 402 No. 6

Written Answers - Eye Test Charges.

Richard Bruton

Question:

45 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health the reason children of medical card holders are forced to pay the cost of eye tests unless or until they have reached the age of 16; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Section 67 of the Health Act, 1970, requires the health boards to make ophthalmic treatment and optical appliances available without charge to persons who have full eligibility, that is, to medical card holders and their dependants. This would include the children of medical card holders.
