Vol. 403 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Southern Ring Road.

Peter Barry

Question:

18 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in opening the Southern Ring Road in Cork between Rochestown Road and Kinsale Road.

Work on this section of the Southern Ring Road was commenced in 1985. Cork Corporation, the road authority concerned, expect to complete the work in 1991.

There were two main reasons for the delay in completing the work. Legal proceedings in relation to a bridge over the Douglas Road were not finally determined until recently in the Supreme Court. Difficulties were also encountered in relocating a halting site for travellers near the Kinsale Road.
