Vol. 403 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mayo Water Supply Schemes.

Jim Higgins

Question:

41 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment if he will treat, as a matter of urgency, the application from Mayo County Council for the connection of Claremorris-Ballindine water supply schemes to the Lough Mask scheme, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the difficulties with water supplies in the Claremorris and Ballindine areas. Contract documents have been submitted to my Department by Mayo County Council for a scheme to extend the Lough Mask supply from Ballinrobe to Claremorris and Ballindine. The related certificate of completion of planning has just been received in my Department.

The proposal is under consideration in my Department in the light of existing capital commitments and the demands for high priority schemes in other areas. It must in any event be preceded by a subsoil investigation which I hope to approve shortly.
