Vol. 403 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

John Connor

Question:

64 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the funding provided by his Department to the special task force for housing the elderly is totally inadequate and that the scheme of house improvement operated for the task force by the eight health boards is about to be discontinued in some areas due to the absence of funds; his views on whether this would be a retrograde step; and if he intends to provide the necessary finance to save the scheme from collapse.

A provision of £2 million is available in 1990 for the task force on special housing aid for the elderly, a significant increase on the £1 million provided in the early years of the scheme and the £1.5 million provided as late as 1988. No additional funds are available in the current year to allow any further increase in the allocations to individual health boards by which the scheme is operated.
