Vol. 403 No. 2

Written Answers. - Compensation Payments.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

90 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Energy whether all remaining customers of the Wexford Gas Company have been compensated as announced by him; if not, when remaining customers will receive their compensation; and the total cost when all customers will have been compensated.

All claims for assistance under the scheme have now been assessed. A total of 1,449 valid claims were received. As of Friday last, 23 November, assistance had been paid in respect of 1,404 customers.

The remaining claims are now being processed and it is expected that payments will be made in the next three weeks.

The total gross cost of closing down and making safe the Wexford gas network and providing assistance to domestic customers to change over to alternative cooking facilities is estimated at £297,000.
