Question:

112 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make funding available to Laois County Council for the purpose of providing traffic route lighting in Borris-in-Ossory village, where there were two fatal road accidents in recent weeks.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 107, 108, 111 and 112 together.

There are no proposals before my Department in relation to road and footpath improvements, the provision of road lighting or the provision of traffic lights on the national primary route N7 at Borris-in-Ossory village. The development of any proposals for road improvements and road lighting at this location is a matter in the first instance for the local authority; in this case, Laois County Council. The provision of traffic lights is also a matter for the local authority acting at the request of, or with the consent of, the Garda Commissioner.
