Vol. 403 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Service Career Break Schemes.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

19 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Finance if any studies of the career breaks scheme have been undertaken to evaluate its impact upon the public service with regard to mobility, morale and efficiency; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any formal study of career break schemes in the public service of the type referred to in the question. Of course, my Department are constantly in contact with other Departments and the unions concerning the operation of the schemes and I am satisfied that they have had a beneficial impact on the service.
