Vol. 403 No. 10

Written Answers. - Bovine Leukosis.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

26 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline his proposals to eliminate leukosis in our cattle population.

With a view to having Ireland recognised as free of enzootic bovine leukosis for the purpose of intra-Community trade, I am proposing to have a full round of testing in 1991 carried out on all bovines over 24 months of age. If reactors are discovered they will be slaughtered in accordance with the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 and the Diseases of Animals (Bovine Leukosis) Order 1977.
